Music Therapy for All Ages, Needs, & Abilities

From individual sessions to community outreach, our music therapy services meet people where they are—helping them grow, heal, and thrive.

Individual Music Therapy

In individual music therapy, vocal and instrumental improvisation serves as a dynamic means of communication between the client and therapist. As the therapeutic relationship develops, clients are supported in expanding their capacity for spontaneous musical expression and interpersonal connection.

  • With children and adolescents, sessions may sometimes be co-led by a team of two therapists—one focusing on live music-making, while the other provides support to help the child engage, participate, and respond. For adult clients, therapy is typically conducted by a single therapist, allowing for focused, individualized care tailored to the client's unique goals and needs.

Social Group Music Therapy

Group music therapy focuses on fostering personal development and enhancing social interaction. Clients will engage in improvised or structured musical activities that are thoughtfully designed to address specific therapeutic goals. Each session is carefully tailored by the therapists to encourage meaningful participation and to create a musically rewarding experience for all members of the group.

  • Two therapists often work collaboratively to guide the session—one leading the musical component and the other supporting individual engagement—ensuring that each client is encouraged and empowered to participate to their fullest potential. This collaborative approach enhances the therapeutic environment and helps maximize developmental, emotional, and social outcomes for every participant.

Traditional and Adaptive Music Lessons

We offer adaptive instruction on piano, guitar, and other instruments, to meet the needs of people with diverse learning abilities. Traditional music instruction is also provided to students of all ages and levels with neurotypical backgrounds.

Recording Sessions

Nashville Music Therapy center is equipped with its own state-of-the-art recording studio, designed and constructed by the audio engineers of Ocean Way Nashville Studios—a space where your creativity, voice, and vision can come to life.

  • We understand that not everyone has easy access to professional recording opportunities. With compassionate guidance from experienced music therapists and audio professionals, clients have the chance to experience the joy of hearing and seeing their creative work in a professional format—something that’s not only empowering, but deeply meaningful.

Outreach and Collaborative Programs

We offer a wide range of outreach and collaborative programs, both at our center and throughout the community. These initiatives are designed to extend the benefits of music therapy to individuals and groups who may not otherwise have access to such services.

  • Our team has partnered with schools, agencies, and organizations to provide music therapy in diverse settings. Past collaborations include work with the Tennessee Department of Education, delivering services to children in special education programs and those with hearing impairments; supporting teens in transition programs designed to help less privileged students prepare for the workforce; and providing therapy to individuals with developmental disabilities through partnerships with organizations such as Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Through these efforts, we remain committed to making music therapy accessible and impactful across a broad spectrum of needs and communities.
